About us...

Meet Hamish & Lindsay

We first fell in love with Watamu when we came to Kenya many years ago. For a couple who love exploring nature's wild places, we were captivated by its beaches, mangroves and timeless way of life.

We're both passionate professionals working in community development and mental health - another reason we were drawn to peaceful Watamu.

Swahili for peace...

'Salama' captures the essence of what we're trying to create for all who stay here: peace with the earth, the community and each other. A place to retreat, relax, unwind and play.

Meet Nora and Arnold

You'll be well looked after. Our lovely housekeeper Nora has lived in Watamu for many years, just a short walk from the house. She will introduce you to Salama House, clean each day and help look after the kitties (she loves them just as much as we do!).

Her son Arnold is the Salama House gardener, pool-guy and all-round handy-man. He works part time during the week (and can often be found playing football in the evenings with his mates just down the road).

Meet Rocky, Cardi & Wally

After losing their mother, the kitties adopted Salama House as their home in late 2022 and will be excited to meet you. We love them dearly and hope you will love hanging out with them also.

Rocky is the boldest of the three, so you might find him up a tree or climbing the window screens (sigh). Cardi is a sweetheart and thrives on affection. That said, she is the instigator of most of the wresting matches with her brothers. Wally pretends to be the most dignified of the trio, but is a sucker for a scratch behind the ears or a belly rub.
