If you've visited before, you'll know just how precious and fragile Watamu's environment is. Here's everything we're doing to help care for this special place through Salama House:
Full solar power - We're now off the grid with a newly installed full home solar system!
Rain water harvesting - We've installed a 90,000 litre water catchment system for the house and pool.
Composting and recycling - We compost all food waste and recycle as much as we can with a local environmental charity.
Local food and produce - We encourage our guests to buy from local shopkeepers. The fruit and veggies are cheap and healthy!
Reducing our energy use - We don't use hot water in the house and prefer ceiling fans to power-hungry air-con!
Carbon offsetting - We donate a portion of our income to schemes designed to offset the carbon footprint of our guests.
